Mike Sigman, M.Div., 1986

As a church planter, bishop, seminary president and now senior pastor, Mike Sigman is no stranger to leadership, a quality developed in him through his time as a student at Evangelical. "Evangelical introduced me to spiritual disciplines, and provided me mentors who encouraged me to develop leadership gifts and graces," he says.

Mike served 14 years as a church planter and pastor in Baltimore, MD, then was bishop of the Evangelical Congregational Church from 1999 to 2008. He served three years as Evangelical's president and is now senior pastor of Grace Community E.C. Church of Willow Street, in Lancaster County, PA.

Norm Dixon, B.D./M.Div., 1969

Four years after he finished seminary, Norm began a mission to Kenya that lasted 26 years. He helped train Kenyans for ministry in the church and taught missionary kids at Rift Valley Academy. He returned to the States - and pastoral ministry -- in 1999.

"It is gratifying to know that there are still men in the ministry that I taught here in the US, and that across Kenya and other African countries there are literally hundreds of men and women faithfully serving the Lord who sat under my teaching and mentoring ministry," he says.

Norm retired in 2007 but still pastors a church part time and is a retirement community chaplain. "The commitment of the Evangelical faculty to quality education and their vision for reaching a lost world was more than adequate to enable me to continue on in theological education and to serve in a wide variety of ministries," Norm says. "What was lacking in breadth of teaching because of the limited number of faculty was compensated by learning the skills that enabled me to continue to grow."

Jody B. Fleming, M.Div., 2009

Jody Fleming began serving as an associate pastor and as a hospice chaplain in York, PA, while still a student. In 2010 she was ordained as an elder in the Church of the Nazarene. But her schooling isn't finished. Jody recently was accepted into a Ph.D. program at Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA, following "a call to teach upcoming pastors both locally and overseas," she says.

"My work in hospice has allowed me to use my pastoral gifts to bring comfort to those who are dying and their families, helping them to reconnect with their faith traditions," she says. "On the 'flip' side of pastoral care has been my academic work where I have had several book reviews published and presented a paper at the Society of Pentecostal Studies annual meeting this past Spring."

The basis for chaplaincy and academics was formed at Evangelical. "The faculty and staff at Evangelical have been a huge support for me!" she says. "What I learned there has helped me in both my pastoral work and my academic studies. Evangelical truly fit my need to nourish and develop my pastoral side as well as to challenge my mind in preparation for the rigors of doctoral work!"

Randy Sizemore, M.Div., 1998

Randy Sizemore is the executive director of the Evangelical Congregational Church's Global Ministries Commission where he invites local congregations in the United States into the work of international missions. He oversees 53 mission workers in nine countries and five international mission conferences.
"The best part of my current ministry is the personal interaction with international church leaders and the joy of helping their ministries become more mature and effective," Randy says.

The job has taken him around the globe, from Liberia to India to Japan, and closer to home, to Mexico and Costa Rica, evaluating the mission fields, visiting with leaders, preaching, and strategizing new ways to be self-sufficient. "Evangelical helped me build the Biblical foundation and ministry philosophy needed to effectively minister," he says. "With this formative foundation in place, I can now continue to learn, grow and develop the practical skills needed to be effective in the variety of settings God has placed me in."

Mike Snedeker, M.Div., 2005

Mike Snedeker is the lead pastor of Community Evangelical Church in Sinking Spring, PA. Helping people connect faith to their daily life is a highlight of his job.

"Without a doubt the best part of ministry is seeing someone 'get it,'" he says. "Seeing someone come to that place in life when their faith and their life integrate: when being a follower of Jesus becomes who they are, not just something that they do."

What he learned at Evangelical became a way of life. "I was blessed to be able to apply what I learned in a very practical way," he says. "I am extremely grateful to my professors and peers who helped me learn the deep truths of God and his word but also how to communicate those truths to people so that they can experience God and his love in a very real way."
